Inani Beach is the crown jewel of the Marine Drive coastline. Located approximately 25 kilometers south of Cox’s Bazar city, it offers a drastically different landscape from the sandy, flat beaches of Laboni and Kolatoli. Inani is famous for its rock and coral boulders that scatter the shoreline—a geological feature unique to this specific stretch of the coast. Because it is further from the city, it remains cleaner, quieter, and far less crowded, making it the preferred destination for nature lovers, honeymooners, and photographers.
Geography & Unique Features
-
The Coral Stones: Unlike the main city beaches which are entirely sandy, Inani is dotted with black and green coral stones. These rocks are jagged and sharp, becoming fully visible during low tide. They create small natural pools where crabs, small fish, and snails can often be seen.
-
Shark-Free Water: Inani is historically known for having calm, shark-free waters, making it safer for wading (though swimming can be tricky due to the rocks).
-
Golden Sand: The sand here is often described as “golden” and is firmer than the loose sand of the main beach, making it excellent for walking or beach sports.
-
Backdrop: The beach is bordered by tall, lush green hills to the east and the Bay of Bengal to the west, creating a stunning “sea-and-mountain” visual tunnel.
Key Attractions & Activities
-
Beachcombing: During low tide, the coral rocks are exposed. Visitors love walking among them to spot sea urchins, starfish, and colorful shells.
-
Sunset Photography: The combination of the rocky foreground and the sun setting over the ocean makes Inani the most photogenic sunset spot in the district.
-
Marine Drive Journey: The journey to Inani is an attraction itself. Driving along the Marine Drive road with the hills on one side and the ocean on the other is considered one of the best road trip experiences in Bangladesh.
-
Jet Skiing: While swimming is sometimes restricted due to rocks, jet skiing is a very popular activity here, with operators available right on the beach.
