Local Transport
The town is compact, but you need to know the “rules of the road” to avoid overpaying.
- Tom-Toms (Electric Easy-Bikes): The most common way to travel. They run on shared routes for 10–20 BDT or can be reserved for private trips.
- Uber & Pathao: Ridesharing is now active in Cox’s Bazar! It’s the best way to get a transparent price for longer trips to Inani or the Airport.
- Rickshaws: Perfect for short, breezy rides along the hotel-motel zone. Always agree on the fare before sitting down.
- Chander Gari (Open Jeeps): Essential for groups traveling to Himchari and Inani.
Nightlife & Evening Vibes
While Cox’s Bazar is conservative, it has a vibrant “after-dark” scene focused on food and beach vibes.
- Night Beach Markets: Sugandha and Laboni beaches stay alive until late with street food stalls, live fry-stations, and glowing tea stalls.
- Radiant Fish World: This international-standard aquarium stays open into the evening and is a great indoor activity for kids.
- Resort Lounges: For a more “upscale” evening, the Sayeman Sunset Bar or Ocean Paradise Rooftop offer the best views with mocktails and live music.
- Beachside BBQ: Many hotels set up live BBQ pits on the sand where you can eat grilled snapper under the stars.
Best Time to Visit (The 2026 Season)
Cox’s Bazar changes drastically depending on when you go:
- Peak Season (November – February): Perfect weather (15°C–25°C), calm seas, and clear skies. Expect high prices and crowds.
- The “Green” Season (June – September): The monsoon brings dramatic skies and massive waves. Hotels offer 30–50% discounts. Great for photographers and solitude seekers.
- Shoulder Season (March – May): Hot and humid, but the water is at its clearest—perfect for scuba diving or snorkeling near the coral reefs.
Information for Foreign Travelers
- Dress Code: Bangladesh is conservative. While swimwear is fine in resort pools, it is respectful to wear a t-shirt and shorts/trousers on public beaches.
- Cash is King: While big hotels accept cards, you will need Taka (cash) for all local transport, markets, and beach activities. ATMs are plentiful near Kolatoli Circle.
- Connectivity: 4G/5G is strong in the town, but can get spotty as you drive down Marine Drive toward Teknaf.
